About the channel
Tired of all the video essay channels that ONLY center white male filmmakers and stories? We are too. Side Eye Cinema is a video essay channel for film lovers who’ve searched the margins when the center wasn’t enough. We explore films that center the perspectives, experiences, and stories of people marginalized by the dominant culture: especially girls, women, and folks of color. More than providing film education beyond the traditional classroom, Side Eye Cinema also creates a space of belonging for people who don’t often see themselves or their experiences reflected on-screen and rarely encounter analyses that take their stories seriously. Have a favorite film or filmmaker you think is overlooked? Let us know! We’d love to hear from you. Video Essayist: Desirée de Jesus, PhD
